Yandex Cloud incident on October 8: what we know

On October 8, Yandex Cloud reported a power supply incident in the ru-central1-b availability zone. By our estimate, it affected around 1% of GPTunneL infrastructure. Users should not have noticed any disruption.

Reports about the data center

Interfax, citing Yandex's press office, reported that the incident affected part of a data center's infrastructure. The company said nobody was injured and the situation at the facility was under control. Yandex had previously described the facility as the largest in its network.

The company later clarified that a drone attack had caused a fire at the data center. RBC reported this statement from Yandex's press office. Yandex warned that some of its services could be unavailable. These reports do not provide a detailed assessment of the damage.

What happened at Yandex Cloud

At 01:31 UTC+3, Yandex Cloud reported power supply disruptions in the ru-central1-b availability zone. The provider recommended moving workloads to other zones where possible. The timeline is available on the official page for incident #2092.

The disruption also affected resource provisioning outside that zone overnight. In its 04:55 update, the cloud team warned of possible difficulties creating virtual machines, Kubernetes clusters and databases in other zones.

At 08:26 UTC+3, the provider said workload switching was complete and services in the other zones were operating normally. However, ru-central1-b remained unavailable, and new resource provisioning could still be limited. That update did not announce full recovery of the affected zone.

GPTunneL's status

The impact on GPTunneL was minimal. Users should not have experienced noticeable disruption to the platform.

GPTunneL is available for use. Follow the official incident page linked above for updates from the cloud provider.
